Sac Central Delegation Bulletin #17: Bye Week Calm Before The Storm

Bulletin Update: 2020 Sac Central Voter Guide now available! Candidates AND Voters - take time to prepare before our Elections on Thursday. Candidates should wear Sac Attire (because they are candidates and to help us with the Sac Attire review we'll do this week!) 

What an amazing weekend! It went by too fast but, as always, the SacC advising team was endlessly impressed by your efforts this weekend. Can't want to see all this hard work pay off at Sac Conference in just 23 days! Big congrats go out to all of our leadership applicants who braved interview jitters to go after appointed leadership positions. Congrats to our three selected Secretariats Jimmy, Jenni, and Miraya! 

Help us finish the year strong by signing up to help out at the Rotary Club Crab Feed on Saturday, February 8. We really need your help! 

1.) No Meeting This Week: Meetings resume January 29 with Delegation Elections, a Sac Attire Slideshow, and more! 

• I have tickets for the following folks attending "Just Mercy" on Wednesday night: Liam, James, Connor, Jimmy, and Sam. Advisor Robbie and Advisor Alison from Eldo will be joining us as well. Meet at the Cinemark Doco at 6:30pm on Wednesday. You can park in the structure on L Street between 4th and 3rd Streets - bring your ticket in to get stamped after the movie. 

2.) CalYMCA Conference Survey: Make sure you take a moment to complete this survey if you haven't yet. Counts for DoD!

Looking Ahead: Our next conference runs from Saturday, January 18 through Monday, January 20. We will again travel by train on roughly the same schedule as the last conference. Our final conference, the full Model Legislature & Court, runs from Thursday, February 13 through Monday, February 17. Unlike our Fresno trips, because the final conference is here in Sacramento, parents must provide transportation to and from the downtown Sacramento area. Plan for Thursday arrival around 10am and Monday pick-up around 9am. Our February 5 pre-MLC meeting will be mandatory for all delegates and a member of each delegate's family. Please make plans to attend!

It's a Great Time to Join the YMCA! The new year leads to a lot of resolutions - many around health and wellness. Healthy Living is one of the Y's three areas of focus along with youth development and social responsibility. If you want to find out what the YMCA has to offer, come visit in January! No joining fees from now through the end of the month.

Gold Country Delegation Bulletin #15: Fundraisers, Elections, and Pre-Con, Oh My!

Our January 16 meeting is a mandatory pre-conference one so please make sure to attend! 

Our January 23 meeting will be held at the Rood Center in Nevada City, and will begin at 5:30! Dress in Sac Attire, as we will be ushering and card-running for the League of Women Voters as they hold their Candidate Forum for District 1 Supervisor (an office currently held by Heidi Hall).

What's due: Nothin'

1.)  Crafty? Bring anything you'd like to contribute to Zayo's Forum Presiding Speaker campaign poster creation effort! Markers, construction paper, glue, poster board, sticks, creative things (no glitter, please) that Zayo can suggest via GroupMe.

2.)  If you don't mind driving to Sacramento, the 38th Annual Rotary Club Crab Feed is being helped by Y&G, and Volunteers are Still Needed: Each year, the Rotary holds a crab feed benefiting local organizations. This year, the February 8, 2020 Crab Feed will benefit the Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento and the Sacramento Central YMCA! We need volunteers! Three shifts are available and you can sign up online and get all the deets here.

3.) Delegation Officer Elections (73rd MLC): This year's delegation elections calendar is as follows:

- Thursday, January 15: Elections Information Distributed

- Friday, January 24: Deadline to file to run for an officer position

- Thursday, January 30: Delegation Elections

- February 23: Swearing-In Ceremony at the Annual Celebration Banquet

All delegates planning to return for next year's program are eligible to run for an officer position. All delegates should carefully review the leadership expectations and officer duty statements (to be distributed tomorrow). Delegates self-nominate for the position in which they are interested by completing the candidate form (to be distributed after tomorrow's meeting). All candidates must complete the form by January 24. Candidate information will be distributed in the delegation bulletin following the form completion deadline. Candidates will have 2 min and 30 seconds to deliver their candidate speech at our January 30 meeting. Delegates may ask candidates questions. Elections will be held January 30 and officers-elect will be sworn-in at our Celebration Banquet on February 23 (after Sac Conference).

4.) Additional Y&G Applied Programs and Opportunities: All apps are available in your Reggo account. Please contact Christiana if you have additional questions about any of these opportunities.

• Conference on National Affairs (CONA): CONA is a ten-day national Y&G program that brings together delegations from all over the US for an NIC-style debate program. Twenty-five delegates from California are selected for this prestigious program. More information can be found here. Financial aid is available through CalYMCA if you are selected. Apply in Reggo. They are looking for more NorCal applicants this year, so APPLY! Due: February 1. NOTE: A lead advisor recommendation is required and must be requested no later than February 1. 
• CalYMCA Governing Board, Youth Member: Applications are now open for youth member spots on the CalYMCA Governing Board. In this role you represent your fellow delegates with a vote on the Board of Directors that makes important policy decisions about our programs. This is a very important position with a lot of responsibility and the power to have a lasting impact on Y&G. Requires quarterly meeting attendance. Travel provided by CalYMCA. Apply in Reggo. Due: February 1
• NJC: I was asked about NJC at the last meeting, and request that all interested applicants apply in Reggo by Feburary 1 to give me time to write the required recommendation (similar to CONA, above). More info on NJC can be found here.

You must notify me if you apply for any of these programs so that I can approve your application. Failure to let me know means your application won't be considered by CalYMCA. 

REMINDERS

Candidates and Leadership Applicants/Applied Program Area Applicants: 

• Applied Leadership/Program interview times for T&EII have gone out via email. If you didn't see the email (from CalY staff), let MJ know ASAP! 
• If you are running for elected office, make sure you have reviewed the campaign rules and that you are tracking any campaign expenditures. You MUST bring to conference check-in a completed campaign finance disclosure form to be signed by your lead advisor even if you incurred no campaign expenses! Every candidate must submit a form upon arrival to Fresno, even if it's blank! 
• If you have applied for appointed leadership, make sure that you read your email regularly between now and the conference and review the conference schedule when it is released next week to check your interview times and locations.
• That includes applicants for program areas such as Supreme Court and CET and special programs like NJC and CONA, etc.

Conference Attendance: We have two remaining conferences this year. Please review our conference attendance policy:

• For T&E II (Jan 18-20): Partial attendance is not permitted except in extraordinary circumstances. Regular season sport events, meets, regular season academic club meets, finals, school projects, etc, are not extraordinary circumstances. You are expected to travel to the conference with the delegation, attend the entire conference, and travel home again with the delegation.
• For ML/C ("Sac Conference," Feb 13-17): Partial attendance is not permitted. Though we happen to be the home team, pretend the conference is located in SoCal, Texas, or the dark side of the moon. No ins-and-outs. Regular season sports, other local extracurriculars, exams, etc, are not valid reasons to miss conference. 

Family Corner: 

Model United Nations has begun! Last week saw the return of the Model Legislature & Court's companion program for middle school students (grades 6-8) to Gold Country. If you have a middle school student at home or have friends with children in that age group, please pass along an invitation to attend our next meeting Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 4:30-6pm at the same place as MLC, 240 Mill Street, GV, side door. Registration is now open!

Hello El Dorado, I can't believe T&E 2 is already here! Time flies indeed. This week's meeting is a MANDATORY pre-conference meeting. Lot's of important info for the conference and a good opportunity for you to ask questions. Excited for this weekend!

1.) Mandatory Pre-Conference Meeting Thursday: This week is conference week! On Thursday we will be going over all things T&E2 related, make sure to be there to get all of the important information. This meeting is also mandatory for your parents, especially if you are a new delegate and have not attended a T&E 2 conference yet. 

Here is a link, and attached. to our pre-conference letter that will give you all the details on the conference. Review this before the meeting on Thursday and let me know if you have questions.

Here is a link to the conference schedule. Please review it before you get to Fresno. A printed copy will be given to you when we arrive. 

Be at Oak Ridge at 8:30am on this Saturday for a timely departure at 9am for Fresno. Seating is first come first served with no saving seats. If you want to sit with your friends, you will need to get there early! We are planning to be back at Oak Ridge around 3pm on Monday. We will text you details on our progress come on Monday. 

2.) Pre-Conference Prep: Some folk have stuff to do before T&E 2. If you are in the DOF, NIC, program areas, please note the items below:

• NIC: Draft NIC proposals due at T&E 2. Read this NIC proposal guide. You can also check out last year's NIC proposal book for reference. Creativity and novel ideas are rewarded in this program area, so avoid the topics listed in the guide and forge your own! You will also need to bring 20, yes 20, printed copies of your draft proposal to T&E 2. 
• DoF: Draft Dept of Finance proposals due at T&E 2. You will have the chance to work on your proposal at T&E 2 for further refinement. Final proposals are due in Reggo on Jan 30. 

3.) Lunch Order - T&E 2: Everyone attending T&E 2 conference must fill out the survey link below for lunch coming home on Monday. Even if you are not planning on getting a Subway sandwich for lunch, please indicate that by selecting the "no lunch for me" option. We want to make sure everyone 1) knows they need to have lunch for themselves on Monday and 2) has the opportunity to buy lunch. http://bit.ly/capcolunch72

Returning Freshman delegates are encouraged to run for Forum Liaison. All delegates should carefully review the leadership expectations and officer duty statements. Delegates self-nominate for the position in which they are interested by completing this candidate form. All candidates must complete the form by January 23.  Candidates will have 2 min to deliver their candidate speech at our January 30 meeting. Delegates may ask candidates questions. Elections will be held the Monday morning of the Sacramento Conference and officers-elect will be sworn-in at our Celebration Banquet on February 23 (after Sac Conference).

6.) Crab Feed Volunteers Needed: Eldo needs a YMCA/School volunteer event for DoD. Here's an event that would help with that and give you that warm and fuzzy volunteer feeling! The Y is partnering with Rotary for its annual Crab Feed and volunteers are needed during the day to set up (2 shifts available) and to work the event in the evening.
