You did it! Most of our delegation walked into the Y or the Community Center in September, sat down, had no idea what they were in for, and dove in anyway. Last weekend was the payoff for that leap of faith. The advisors saw something momentous from every, single delegate during Sac Conference. Your growth from last fall to now was obvious and we are so, so proud to have been with you on this journey. And now, on to the celebration!

YG68 Delegation Bulletin #13: Jingle All The Way To January

Here's what you need to know this week. Read it carefully or you won't know where to go for our meeting/party tomorrow.

1.) Attendance & Remaining Meetings: Last week, half the delegation was absent. Illness happens and we certainly prefer that you keep your germs at home when you're sick! Life happens, too. But, as we enter finals season, I'd like to remind everyone that time-management is a skill we work to develop in Y&G. Finals or midterms aren't a good excuse for missing a meeting because you know when meetings are and you know when your exams are. Good time management should allow you to take care of all of your commitments.

We only have 4 or 5 meetings left this year - if you can believe it. Here is the schedule for the rest of the year:

2.) December 16 Meeting & Holiday Party Gus and his family have graciously offered their home for our Meeting & Holiday part tomorrow. The address is ______________. Be there at 6:30pm. Food and drinks will be provided, but feel free to bring something to share as well. Remember to bring your Secret Santa gift. You all should have your slips of paper or the picture you took of that slip of paper so you know your Secret Santa assignment. Limit is $10/gift. Funny (in a kind way) gifts, re-gifting, all fine.

3.) Bill Boxes Project  Each year, our delegation helps the Y&G HQ assemble program materials relied on by 800 or so delegates. We organize and file the bills submitted by all delegations, statewide. It isn't complicated work but it can be VERY time consuming without enough help. It is vital that you show up for the shifts you indicated availability for. Below is the schedule and the days people indicated they could attend. If you can come more days than you originally thought, please do so. We may have to add additional days/times as well. Lunch will be provided. We DO NOT meet at our meeting location and we DO NOT meet at the YMCA. We will meet at the California YMCA Headquarters: 2555 3rd Street, Suite 215 Sacramento CA 95818

4.) NIC Delegates You should begin thinking about your proposals. Please review the attached information on the NIC program area and proposal development process.  You also have Victoria and Efrain as resources since they both participated in NIC last year. You should have an idea selected by our Jan 6 meeting and a draft proposal by our Jan 13 meeting.

5.) National Judicial Competition and Conference on National Affairs  There are two additional conferences to which you can apply that are national and convene during the summer. The NJC application is due January 11 and the CONA application will likely be due February 11. You can learn more about these here and here. The NJC application is already available in Reggo. I am going to work on having delegation alumni who have participated in these conferences visit a meeting or do a google hangout to answer your questions. We'll discuss these more at a future meeting, but you should read up on these opportunities now.

6.) Spring Conference Interest  Each April, there is a Y&G Spring Conference held in Corcoran, CA. It's a short weekend with NIC and Legislative House and it's really fun. It is great for delegates considering running for office next year or to recruit your friends for the program. We camp on the YMCA lawn in Corcoran, it's all very casual, there's still a dance, and there's a water slide. The conference this year is April 8-10.  The cost last year was $200 for program fees + Amtrak tickets (about $60-80). I don't yet know what this year's program fees will be. Financial assistance or an extended payment plan may be available. I would like to know if anyone is interested in attending. We do not yet know how many delegates we'll be able to take. Please let me know if you might like to attend or if you have friends who might be interested in checking out the program.

Delegation Spring Conference Bulletin #4

Conference attendees have 3 important tasks to complete ASAP:

You'll register as "Capitol Coalition" delegation for this conference.

Please complete your registration by tonight at 8pm.  Send me an email or leave a note in the FB group so I know you've registered!

2) Book your train tickets! Attached to this email is a flyer with instructions and the details. To receive the 10% discount you must either call or go in-person to the train station. Make sure you book EXACTLY the combination of bus/trains listed on the flyer. Check and double-check!  Send me an email or leave a note in the Facebook group so I know you've purchased your ticket. TICKETS MUST BE PURCHASED BY 5PM ON FRIDAY, MARCH 15. Don't delay!

3) Do you have a tent you can bring that you're willing to share? We need one tent for the girls that can hold 4 and one tent for the guys that can hold 2. Please email me to let me know whether you have a tent you can bring.

Other deadlines:
A) Appointed and Elected Leadership Applications are due by March 22. Have you applied? Let me know!

Appointed roles are selected and assigned before we get there. Elections are held on Friday night during the conference.

B) Bills and NIC proposals are due March 22. We can send one bill and up to 1 proposal per NIC delegate. Unlike the regular conference, neither is required, but both are strongly encouraged to be submitted. See attached Bill and NIC proposal information. C) Mixed Bag sales and money were due last night at the meeting. If you have orders, you must deliver them to the YMCA by Friday, March 15. No orders can be accepted after that point.

Coming up:
- Next week's meeting (3/20) will focus on planning for summer events and the year ahead. Bring your calendar or planner. ALL delegates (regardless of Spring Conference attendance) are asked to attend!
- There will be NO meeting on March 27.
- The April 3 meeting is MANDATORY for delegates attending Spring Conference. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend. Delegates are required to be there.
- Job training opportunity: The Y is offering lifeguard training and classes start very soon. The Y will be hiring many lifeguards this summer. This training will qualify you for those jobs and probably many others. There is a fee. If you are interested, let me know and I'll send you the flyer (it was available at last night's meeting.
-Did you read all of this information? Send me an email telling me 1) the deadline for buying your train ticket, 2) whether you can buy your ticket online, and 3) the subject of our March 20 meeting and your lunch on the way home from the conference is on me!

New Delegate Scholarship Information

Our first Spring Conference meeting will be next Wednesday, March 6. It's open to all interested 9th-11th grade students!

Returning delegates are encouraged to attend even if you cannot attend Spring Conference - we need your help to explain the program to our new friends!

Meeting attendees should bring:

1. Completed Spring Conference Registration Forms
2. A check for $200
3. Completed Y-assist form (new delegates only; and make sure you have completed the on-line Scholarship Application as well.)
4. Pen, paper, and your calendar/planner

For our first meeting, we will do a brief program overview, a short discussion about Spring Conference, and then dive right into leadership opportunities and the bill/NIC proposal process.

Mixed Bag catalogs will be available. Mixed Bag sales are open to those participating in Spring Conference or who will be returning next year. Sales will be credited to individual sellers (though the option to donate proceeds to the group scholarship fund is always available!). Mixed Bag orders and money will be due at our March 13 meeting. That gives you one week to get your sale on if you don't have a catalog already! (If you want to get selling sooner, additional catalogs can be picked up from Ashley at the Y.)

For those with catalogs already, remember that checks should be made payable to "Sacramento YMCA," and you do not need to calculate sales tax, it is included in the price of the bags.

Spring Conference Scholarship for New Delegates

If you are a new delegate, click here to apply for a Spring Conference Scholarship. Funds are extremely limited and we may not be able to accommodate all requests. Applicants must also complete and submit the Y-assist application with all supporting documentation. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The deadline for this application is March 6, 2013.

If you missed the first Spring Conference Bulletin, check your email (or find it sans-attachments here.) Here's the complete Spring Conference calendar - grab your planners and a pen and jot down these dates, there aren't many, but they are important (and they are slightly amended from what is found on the registration packet):

March 6 - First Spring Conference Delegation Meeting at the YMCA, 6:30pm

• Bring your bill ideas, NIC proposal ideas, and your new recruits!
• Registration and payment due.

March 13 -  Meeting: Finalize our bill and NIC proposals
March 15 - Meeting and lots of deadlines:

• Leadership Applications Due
• Registration Due (from us to Y&G)

March 20 -  Meeting: 66th ML/C Fundraising and Planning meeting.
March 27 - Spring Break - No Meeting!
April 3 - Mandatory pre-conference meeting!
April 5-7 - Spring Conference in Corcoran, California! Departure estimated to be 10:00am on Friday, April 5 from the Amtrak station in Sacramento; returning around 6:30pm on Sunday, April 7.

Spring Conference Bulletin #1

As you know, the event will be held Friday, April 5 - Sunday, April 7, 2013 in Corcoran, CA (down by Tulare). The Y down there is apparently super awesome, has a swimming pool, and a water slide. And you get to wear flip-flops, not Sac attire. Wohoo for casual conferences!

Program Areas: This conference is a super-mini ML/C - well, ML, there's no C at this one. There are three program areas: Senate, Assembly, and NIC. There are also additional leadership opportunities just for this conference. You can run for/apply for:

- Speaker of the Assembly
- Lieutenant Governor
- NIC Presiding Commissioner (3 slots)
- Committee Chair (multiple available for both legislative houses and NIC)

In our meetings we'll author another piece of legislation as well as one or more NIC proposals to take to Spring Conference. This will give new delegates exposure to what we do during the fall and give returning delegates a chance to delve even deeper into policy proposals and parliamentary procedure.

Another difference with Spring Conference is that everyone has, basically, the same sessions at the same time, AND the same free time - much of which apparently gets spent pool-side.

Accommodations: We will be camping on the lawn in tents. But it won't be cold. It won't be an animal barn. And there will be shower facilities - so not like that thing we almost did with Larry ;)

Travel: I misspoke about this conference earlier - you will miss school on Friday, April 5 because we are taking the train and we need to be in Corcoran by 5pm. Most likely, we'll be taking a bus from Sac to Stockton at about 10am and then a train from Stockton to Corcoran, arriving there at about 3pm. The train station is about 3/4 of a mile from the Corcoran YMCA, so we'll be walking (and finding a ride for your luggage).

Fun stuff: There's a pool and a water slide - did I mention? There were also be a dance, snack time, and a Campfire-style friendship gathering. This conference is MUCH smaller than the one you just completed but it's a great opportunity to meet new people and get to know your program friends better. It's also a great opportunity to network for those of you seeking elected or appointed roles next year.

Don't Close the Book, Just Turn the Page

Well, we did it! The 65th ML/C is complete. What an amazing conference!  Here are some highlights from our year:

• A 260% increase in our delegation! (From 3 to 8, but it counts!)
• The first ever Baby Bob!
• The first - and only - Larry.
• Our delegates stepped up and took a chance by applying for:
• Committee Chair
• Undersecretary of State
• Governor's Lobbyist
• Governor's Cabinet
• Conference on National Affairs
• Youth Member of the Y&G Governing Board
• Tony will be one of 25 California delegates representing our state at CONA.
• Alex was selected Legislator of the Year in the Blue Assembly 
• Sacramento Central was selected as a Delegation of Distinction - one of very few delegations to earn the honor this year!

Truly impressive work for a small delegation.  Our delegates and their families should be really proud.

Of course, the fun doesn't have to end! We're not going to lose momentum this year -we want to keep growing. So here are some dates to note:

February 27 - 65th ML/C Celebration Party! 6:30-8pm, hosted by your advisors at Christiana and Rob's house. Let's celebrate our accomplishments with dessert and our personalized delegation slide show. Parents invited! (Do you have photos from Baby Bob, Larry, Bob II, etc? Send them over for inclusion in the slide show!)

March 6 - Spring Conference meetings begin!  We'll meet just a few times before Spring Conference on March 6, 13, 20 and April 3.  Returning delegates must bring completed paperwork and program fees ($200) on March 6. New delegates may submit their paperwork on March 13. Find paperwork and program info here.

Summertime: We'll have some social events and fundraisers throughout the summer. Have ideas? Start jotting them down.

September 2013: Baby Bob returns! Spend a weekend in the Sierra bonding with your Capitol Coalition friends at Bear Valley Y Camp. Campfires, s'mores, songs, and fun.  You don't want to miss this . . . .

The final pre-conference bulletin!

Well - we've made it! In just three days we'll convene the 65th Model Legislature & Court here in Sacramento. We hope you've enjoyed the journey so far. And for our first-timers - just wait, this week will be like nothing you've seen before. Get set to make some memories....

Sac Conference:
Here's some info to get you to Thursday and through the conference:

1. Schedule highlights - including a more detailed check-in procedure can be found here. If you click that link and give that document a read and tell Christiana via email in which exhibit hall you will drop off your luggage before check-in, you might just be rewarded.
2. Lost the info we handed out at the last meeting? Never fear - it's all right here and the parent letter is here. Please check it out - that means actually read it - and share with your parents.
3. Other conference info like the excused absence letter example, dress code, and conference schedule can all be found here.
4. This is SO, SO important. Please enlist your parents' help, pronto!
5. Don't forget to bring money for food during the conference. And, once again, we highly recommend bringing some non-perishable breakfast items (fruit, instant oatmeal, bars, etc) to save time and money.
6. Links to all the applications due at Sac Conference. Don't delay! You won't have time to complete them during the conference.

March Volunteer Activity: You'll want to keep wearing your sweatshirt proudly around town, right? Why not volunteer for the 5th Annual Donut Dash in Land Park on Saturday, March 9?  They need volunteers to help out along the race course and a few other places. You can register here. This isn't a mandatory activity, but we think it would be fun. And the delegation-of-distinction race starts again after Sac Conference!
