Delegation Bulletin #10: The One With All The Attachments

(Note: all attachments can be found here - or in your inbox!)

Here's what you need to know for the week ahead!

Bill Hearing Night & PrepBy now, you should know that Bill Hearing Night will be held at Sacramento City Hall on Wednesday, November 6, at 6:30pm (for the public - you'll need to be there at 6!) Attached is a flyer you can print and give to your parents and leaders in your community.

Next week - October 30 - we'll have our full Bill Hearing Night practice. You should have a completed Bill Worksheet (including copies of at least two pieces of research you used) and draft bill language. If you need help with either of those - contact an advisor ASAP! We will review our committee procedure for November 6 as well. Each bill group should be ready to present:
Author Sponsor Speech (this is the introduction to your bill and your initial pitch for support)
Lobbyist Speech FOR the bill
Lobbyist Speech AGAINST the bill
Author Summation Speech (this is the closing speech and final pitch for your bill)

Reading test #1: First Bill Sponsor to reply that they have read this bulletin (including the answer to reading test #2, below) gets to pick the presentation slot 1, 2, or 3 for bill hearing night.

Payment DeadlineNovember 6 is also a $260 payment deadline. Feel free to bring this on Oct 30, if you can, so that you don't forget with the rush of Bill Hearing Night Prep.

Sac AttireThe ML/C Dress Code is attached. Read it. Ask Questions. You'll be expected to attend the full Bill Hearing Night dressed appropriately.

Letter of support/Excused Absence TemplateAttached is a letter of program support from Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and a sample excused absence letter that can and should be customized for those of you missing school to attend conferences (check your school calendars). Don't bring this to me. This is for you and your school, if necessary.

Delegation Dinner!Jeopardy Edition: Answer: Cafe Bernardo on K! Question: Where will be having our delegation dinner this year during Sac conference! (note, this is the Reading Test #2 answer you'll need to complete #1 above!)

November 6: BILL HEARING NIGHT! (At Sacramento City Hall; MANDATORY) and $260 payment deadline

Delegation Bulletin #9: Bill Time

We're back to our regularly scheduled meeting time/location tomorrow - 6pm in the Board Room. Now that it's getting darker earlier (and in case the weather ever cools down and/or rains), everyone should use the V Street entrance rather than entering through the upper Y building and going through the field in the dark. The street address for that building is 1926 V Street. It is just east of the train tracks, between 19th and 21st Street.

We're all bill work, all the time until Bill Hearing Night on November 6.

Bill Sponsors and their groups should be able to complete this information at the end of this email by the time they arrive at the meeting tomorrow (or darn close!)

Calendar:
October 23: Regular Meeting - Bill Drafts & Supporting Materials due
October 30: Practice Bill Hearing Night (Mandatory); Conference preparation
November 6: BILL HEARING NIGHT! (At Sacramento City Hall; MANDATORY)
November 9-11: Training & Elections Conference I!

Bulletin Bonus: Yes, we will meet this week!

First - we WILL be meeting this week. From now on, we'll be using the V Street entrance for meetings, rather than going through the main Y building and across the sports field. The V Street entrance address is 1926 V Street. If you have a laptop or tablet, bring it with you this week. We'll be primarily working on bills.

Bill Sponsors
:

By the end of this coming Wednesday's meeting, you should be able to answer these three questions:
1.) What problem does your bill seek to solve and how?
2.) In which California state code would your bill live? Which section?
3.) To solve the problem, does your bill need to ADD a new section or does it need to AMEND, or REPEAL existing law?

By Wednesday, October 23, you should have a full draft of your bill and at least two sources of research FOR your bill and two sources AGAINST it.

By Wednesday, November 6, your bill will be about 90% complete for Bill Hearing Night.

The Kids Are Y Tasting & Benefit Auction - Volunteer EventFriday, October 18 will be the benefit Auction at the Masonic Temple Ballroom - located on J Street at 12st in downtown Sac. Plan to be there at 5:30pm wearing dark dress pants/skirt (at least knee-length), a white-collared shirt, and comfortable shoes.

Another Volunteer Event:
We need some volunteers to help pass out Holiday Festival fliers next Saturday, October 19 at the Midtown Craft Fair. We'll take sign-ups at this week's meeting.

Meeting Attendance Reminder:
I
f you're going to be late or absent, you need to contact Alberto BEFORE 6pm to let him know!  Late fees are $1/minute towards the Pizza Fund for those who fail to call. :)

Mixed Bags - last of the last chances: If you still have Mixed Bag orders in your possession, they need to be at the YMCA by noon on Tuesday. Period. The end.
Elected/Appointed Positions: You must complete your application and email or call Christiana NO LATER THAN 8pm on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17 so she can approve your application.

You can park along V Street as well. Call if you get lost: 508-3299

Delegation Bulletin 6.5 - Reminders and A Schedule Change‏

We're meeting tomorrow night! See you all promptly at 6pm in our usual meeting location. (Don't come hungry - we didn't get full participation on our survey - sadness!)

First, Do this, right now, if you haven't yet: http://goo.gl/o8y6qk

Here's what you need to know/do/remember:

1.) MIXED BAG SALES EXTENDED 1 WEEK! Mixed Bag orders were due tomorrow, but we're giving you one more week to sell, sell, sell!

2.) Bill Ideas: please come prepared to talk about bill ideas tomorrow. Remember, www.rtumble.com is a great source of news about California policy and problems - but there are many other sources out there as well - some of which could be found through chats at school or around your dinner table. (Note: solving the Federal Government Shut-Down is probably not a great bill topic since its federal and we're more concerned with state problems.)

3.) Fundraising Letter Drafts Due: If you are interested in pursuing this idea, bring your drafts tomorrow for review. Hopefully, a few people have already proofread them for you. (For info on the process, check out this link: http://saccentraldelegation.blogspot.com/2011/10/y-bulletin-3-letter-writing-and-more.html

4.) Sweatshirt Designs: Bring 'em tomorrow! Check out the FB group for a few ideas Ariel created or to upload your own!

5.) PAYMENTS DUE: By tomorrow, you should have submitted a total of $360 in payments so far. If you applied for Y-Assist, you should have received notification from Mia of your new payment amount. Let me know if you applied but haven't heard from Mia yet.

6.) SCHEDULE CHANGE: Grab your planners - we're mixing it up. Here's your October schedule, it includes some changed dates for meetings:
October 2: Regular Meeting (Bill Ideas, Sweatshirt design, Appointed/Elected Positions)
October 9: Regular Meeting (Bill Ideas; Break into groups; Campaign discussions; Concession sales plans; Bill Hearing Night invites)
October 12 (Saturday): Bill Boot Camp @ The Y - 9am to 1pm (Bill Development & Writing)
October 16: NO Regular Meeting (Bill groups encouraged to use this time to meet)
October 18: MANDATORY Volunteer activity at "The Kids Are Y Tasting & Benefit Auction," Masonic Temple Ballroom, downtown Sac.
October 23: Regular Meeting - Bill Drafts due
October 30: Practice Bill Hearing Night (Mandatory)
