El Dorado Youth and Government Delegation Bulletin #14 (NO MEETING THIS WEEK)

"I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual."
Henry David Thoreau

Happy Thanksgiving!: On behalf of the El Dorado advising team and myself, I'd like to wish you, your friends and family all a very Happy Thanksgiving. I am eternally grateful for the all of the enthusiasm, energy, and happiness each of you give me each Thursday. I do Youth and Government because I am thankful for the experiences if gave me as a delegate and it is my sincerest hope that everyone is able to have similar experiences in our delegation. Enjoy your Turkey Day!

1.) NO MEETING THIS WEEK! Enjoy spending time with your friends and family. Our next meeting is Thursday, November 30th.

2.) LATE! Register for 70th MLC (T&E II and Sac): Registration for the 70th Training & Elections II and Model Legislature and Court is open in Reggo. All registrations should have been in by Thursday, November 16th. If you did not register, you must do it ASAP or you will not be able to attend the next two conferences.

3. Running or Applying for Office at T&E II?  Are you interested in running for an ELECTED office at T&E II? If so, you will need to do three things:
  1. Send me (Derek) and email stating which office you intend to run for.
  2. Apply for your elected position via Reggo (same place you registered for T&E II and Sac). The deadline to submit applications to run is Thursday, November 30th. Failure to submit an application to run will disqualify you from running for office.
  3. Delegation Primary: On Thursday, November 30th, come ready in Sac Attire with a 2 min speech on why you should be selected by our delegation to run for an elected office. The Officer team will also ask all candidates questions regarding their positions/opinions. Our delegation only has two elected candidate spots left so we will need to select who will be able to run for office.
If you are applying for an APPOINTED position at T&E II, you will need to also apply by Thursday, November 30th via Reggo. However, you do not need to give a speech to the delegation.

4). CIM Volunteer Sign-Ups - NEED 20 MORE VOLUNTEERSTime for our favorite yearly service project - running aid stations at the California International Marathon, Sunday, December 3. It's early in the morning. It's going to be cold. But it'll be a ton of fun! (I may even bring you coffee!)

We are still looking for another 20 people (friends and family welcome) to staff the mile 20.4 and the finish line stations (mile 3.4 is FULL) . If we can get these additional 20 people, we'll earn $1000 for our fundraising treasury. Pretty cool. (Eldo delegates get 8 points for showing up on December 3) Sign up today - we need EVERYONE's help! http://bit.ly/CapCoCIMSIgnUp

5.) Program Areas: After T&E I you should have a general outline of the different program areas. Please review this list of program areas and begin to decide on your top choices. We will be selecting our program areas on 11/30. The more points you have, the higher the chances you have on picking the program area you want!

Y&G Sac Central Bulletin #13: Program Area Assignments

Happy Thanksgiving! We do NOT have a meeting tonight. Your advising team is grateful for each and every one of you, every day, all the time. Our delegation wouldn't be what it is if a single one of you weren't here. Thank you for being part of our family.

Here's what you need to know this week

1.) Post-Conference Survey: We need everyone to complete this! It will collect information about holiday events including our annual secret santa gift exchange and Dec 15 volunteer opportunity sign-up. Liam, Aaron, and Cameron need to complete this ASAP! http://bit.ly/Fresno1Survey

2.) CIM Volunteer Sign-Ups Close Today! We still need help at the finish line. Sign-ups close at noon, today, November 22:  http://bit.ly/CapCoCIMSIgnUp

3.) Reggo registration - Round 2 Registration was due 11/16. Two delegates still need to register (Liam and Natalie)  Select "Delegate Registration" here: https://calymca.reggo.org/register/events/82

4.) Program Area Assignments. All delegates have been assigned to program areas for the year. Below is a list of assignments. Delegates are assigned based on expressed interest, program area availability, and advisor evaluation of what would be a good fit and a good challenge for delegates:

Now that you have your program area assignments, I encourage you to see whether there are leadership opportunities available. If so, you should apply/run! http://bit.ly/LeadershipInfoMatrix Applications are available in Reggo and are due December 1.

5.) Special Program Area Applications: If you would like to apply for California Emergency Team, Jury Trial, or the Supreme Court, that application is now available in Reggo. Please complete the application for your desired program area ASAP and let me know when you have completed it so that I can approve it. Applications are due by December 1. Information about each special program area can be found at the Leadership Info Matrix link above.

6.) Dress Code. At last week's meeting, we reviewed the revised dress code for this year. For most delegates, the new dress code will not present much of a change. The major exception is that an "outer layer" is now required for all delegates. Here is the presentation from last week if you would like to review the dress code requirements this year.

Professional attire will be available at extremely low cost at "Sac Rack" at our conference in January. You can also find dress-code appropriate pieces at thrift stores, Black Friday sales, or maybe a parent's closet! You do not need to purchase expensive new wardrobes or full suits. Black dress pants, several dress shirts, and a couple of sweaters (and ties, if needed) are all you need to dress for the 4 days of professional attire required at our conference in February. If you have any questions about whether specific pieces are dress code compliant or you have concerns about acquiring attire, let me know ASAP. We have lots of ways to help!

Parent Corner:
On-Time Payments and Round 2 Scholarships: A payment was due Nov 8. If you have not paid yet, please do so ASAP. Our final payment is due Dec 15. The second round of scholarships from CalYMCA will be announced next week. Y-Assist applicants will be notified of their awards. Please be on the look-out for emails about scholarship and financial aid. They will require responses from recipients.

CIM Volunteering: CIM is our biggest service event of the year AND it supports our delegation as well! We receive a donation from the Sacramento Running Association for helping them staff the race. Parents, siblings, and family friends are all welcome to participate.

El Dorado Youth and Government Delegation Bulletin #12 - Parent/Delegate Edition

You have a payment due this week. Please make sure to bring a check to this week's meeting or pay online now. If you have a question about the amount you owe, email me or Dylan ASAP!

2.) Meals To and From Fresno. We will NOT stop for lunch on the way to Fresno this year. Delegates must bring a sack lunch with them.  For the journey home on Sunday, delegates have the option (strongly recommended) to pre-order lunch from Subway that will be provided to them as they board the bus home. Lunch pre-orders must be received by 9pm on Thursday, November 9. Subway lunch is $7 for a 6" sandwich, chips, and a bottle of water. EXACT CHANGE is required at bus check-in on Friday morning. Order Sunday lunch here: http://bit.ly/CapCoLunch

3.) Mixed Bags: If you ordered Mixed Bags products, they are in and will be available for pick up at our meeting on Thursday.

While CalYMCA will be providing small bags for everyone at check-in, you will not have access to that bag before we arrive to the conference on Friday. It is highly suggested that you bring a small tote bag (something close to the dimensions above, or around 14"x16" at the most) or grocery bag with you to hold your belongings between the time we leave our luggage at the hotel and the time we check into the Convention Center. THERE WILL BE NO PLACE TO CHECK BELONGINGS AT THE CONVENTION CENTER. Pack lightly for the day. You will need a pen, note paper, highlighter and, if desired, your cell phone, charger, external battery pack (if you have one), refillable water bottle, and some snacks. That's about it. You will also go through security screening at building entrances so don't bring extra metal objects and, this should go without saying, no pocket knives, etc.

5.) Political Parties: All delegates should have received an email from their political party over the weekend (check your spam filter if you did not see an email). If you still do not know your party, check out the list here

6). CIM Volunteer Sign-Ups Now Open! Time for our favorite yearly service project - running aid stations at the California International Marathon, Sunday, December 3. It's early in the morning. 7.) Conference info preview. Click here to preview our conference letter and pack-list. We'll review this information extensively on Thursday, but if you'd like to come armed with questions, give it a read now. http://bit.ly/EldoFresno1Info

8.) Operation Care and Comfort: At T&E I, CalYMCA will once again be partnering with Operation: Care and Comfort to provide care packages for our troops overseas. Delegations are challenged to support this effort by collecting assigned items that will be assembled and packaged during T&E I. We have been assigned: Personal, Hygiene & Toiletries 2- Toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrushes, dental floss, lip balm. Please bring a donation to the meeting this week if you are able.
