El Dorado Youth and Government Delegation Bulletin #13

"
Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved."

Helen Keller

Special Conference Note: Congrats on a great weekend! On behalf of the entire Capitol Coalition Advising Team - good work! The next conference is only 61 days away, so let's start getting ready for that one now.

1.) Pin Sales: Pin sales a big success! Thanks to the help of our delegate and advisor pin sales people. We raised over $2,000 this weekend (after expenses). This money will help keep our program accessible to all who want to participate in it. Good work! Let's keep it up for the next conference.

2). Register for 70th MLC (T&E II and Sac): Registration for the 70th Training & Elections II and Model Legislature and Court is open in Reggo. All registrations must be entered and approved by 11:59 P.M. on Thursday, November 16th. If you do not register, you will not be able to attend the next two conferences.

3.) BIG POINTS WEEK! Have you looked at all the stuff you can get points for this week? Remember, points determine the order in which you get to select your program area. We will not have enough spots in all program areas for everyone who might be interested in a particular area. You control how likely it is you'll get your first choice:
  • Post-conference survey - 3 points if by 11/16: Please take a moment to complete our post-conference survey. We depend on your feedback to build the best program possible. We also need your input on your preferred program areas ASAP! http://bit.ly/Fresno1Survey
  • Reggo registration - Round 2! - 5 points if by 11/16:  It's once again time to complete Reggo registration - this time for our final 2 conferences of the year. You must register by this Thursday, November 16.  Select "Delegate Registration" here: https://calymca.reggo.org/register/events/82
  • CIM Volunteer Sign-Ups Now Open1 point just for doing the form by 11/16 and 8 points for showing up: We already have one aid station fully staffed! Please complete this form today, we need EVERYONE's help! http://bit.ly/CapCoCIMSIgnUp
  • Regular Meeting on Thursday: 2 points for being there
  • Total points possible this week11
  • Check here to see how many points you have.

We will also be working to update other points columns today and tomorrow

4.) Meeting This Week, But No Meeting Next Week (11/23): No meeting on Thursday, November 23rd! I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoys time with their friends and family. We have a meeting this week 11/16, then our next meeting will be 11/30.

5). CIM Volunteer Sign-Ups Now Open! Time for our favorite yearly service project - running aid stations at the California International Marathon, Sunday, December 3. It's early in the morning. It's going to be cold. But it'll be a ton of fun! (I may even bring you coffee!) We have 3 service areas to staff this year and if we do, we'll earn $1000 for our fundraising treasury. Pretty cool. Options include our usual aid stations and a new 20-person team helping at the finish line. (Eldo delegates get 1 point for completing the form and 8 points for showing up on December 3) Sign up today - we need EVERYONE's help! http://bit.ly/CapCoCIMSIgnUp

6.) Program Areas: After T&E I you should have a general outline of the different program areas. Please review this list of program areas and begin to decide on your top choices. We will be selecting our program areas on 11/30. The more points you have, the higher the chances you have on picking the program area you want!

7.) Cal YMCA Survey: In addition to our internal survey, linked above, CalYMCA sends out a surveymonkey after conference that you should have received in your email. Please complete that as well. It counts towards delegation of distinction! Do your best to find the link and use it as it will automatically credit our delegation's total responses.

Parent Corner
CIM Volunteering: CIM is our biggest service event of the year AND it supports our delegation as well! We receive a donation from the Sacramento Running Association for helping them staff the race. Parents, siblings, and family friends are all welcome to participate.
