SacC MUN 2020 Bulletin #1: Welcome to Model UN!

Each week, registered Ambassadors will receive a bulletin with important information to help you stay informed about the program. Some weeks will include an Online Scavenger Hunt that will help Ambassadors learn more about the United Nations we'll be modeling in this program. Ambassadors can print these if they wish, but don't need to - jotting down answers on scratch paper or in a notebook is fine!

At the next meeting: We'll get to know each other and the United Nations.
What's due: Paperwork and Payments/Y-Assist Application
What's overdue: Nothing yet!

1.) First Meeting Tomorrow! Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 7 is the first meeting of the 2020 program year! We'll meet at the Tahoe Park Community Center (5959 8th Avenue) from 6:15pm - 7:30 pm. Another group uses the space prior to our meeting, so please wait to enter the space until our meeting time.

2.) What To Bring: Ambassadors are encouraged to bring a notebook, folder, and pen/pencil to meetings. If you don't have a notebook, we'll have some extras at the meeting.

3.) Scavenger Hunt #1: Click here to check out this week's Scavenger Hunt that will take you to the United Nations' website, www.un.org.

4.) Weekly Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article: Each week, the bulletin will include 1-3 articles from the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We may use these as discussion or debate topics at meetings from time to time. You can learn more about the Declaration here.

  • Article 1: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Paperwork Packets Due:  Please make sure that you bring completed paperwork with all required signatures to this week's meeting. The required packet can be found here and you'll see "please sign and return" or "keep this form" at the bottom of each page. A checklist of registration documents is also included for your convenience.

Y-Assist Application: If you would like to apply for Y-Assist Financial Aid, please return the application with all required supporting documents to the next meeting. It is vital that we receive these as soon as possible as the California YMCA Individual Scholarship Application must be submitted by this Thursday, January 10.You can find the applications on page 14-19 of the paperwork packet

- All Means All! At the YMCA, we believe opportunity should be a right, not a privilege. When we say all are welcome in our programs, we mean it. If financial concerns make you worry about enrolling your child in our programs, please please please, speak with an advisor or Dylan at the YMCA. Don't just leave us! We're here to help!

Should I Stay Or Should I Go? Parents are encouraged to drop off their Ambassadors and then grab coffee or dinner or make that Target run and be back at 7:30 for pick up. You're, of course, welcome to stay as well, though we ask that parents not participate in our meetings as they are a time for Ambassadors to overcome potential public speaking shyness, build their confidence, and spread their wings!

Reggo Conference Registration: The start of the program year is full of forms! Here is one last item to do so your Ambassador can attend our conferences. This registration reserves their spot at our training conference in March and Summit in April and is required for all delegates. Please visit Reggo to register and set up a Reggo account (free). Ambassadors will need to access Reggo later in the program to apply for leadership or other special programs, so keep the log-in and password handy! Here's an illustrated how-to if you need it!

Snack Sign-Up: Last year, we learned that an evening snack made everyone a bit more energetic at meetings. If you'd like to bring snack for a meeting, please use this sign-up form. Bringing snack is not required! Please do not bring products with nuts or peanuts.

Still Plenty of Space in the Delegation! We're so excited to welcome our 9 currently registered Ambassadors tomorrow night. We have space for plenty more so if you have friends, classmates, or family members who want to learn more, please invite them to join us for tomorrow's meeting.

Thank you!
