NEW BUSINESS
Meeting Schedule: One Regular Meeting left, and it is TOMORROW! Officers at 6:00, everyone else at 6:30pm. Everyone is practicing their speeches so come prepared!
Bonus Meeting Opportunity - an Invitation from Eldo- This Thursday: We've been invited to attend a Bill Hearing Night/Delegate Showcase this Thursday, February 24, at 6pm at Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills (1120 Harvard Wy, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762). It's a chance to show off your preparations for this weekend to all of CapCo. Family is invited to attend as well (masks required for all attendees). Sac Delegates have been included in the schedule. Please review the schedule and confirm whether you can attend or not with Eldo President Daela Montgomery (copied on this email) by Feb 23 at 6pm.
CONFERENCE THIS WEEKEND: Tell me you know this already, right? We convene Saturday and Sunday at 9:00am and wrap up at about 1:45pm each day. Your attendance is expected. If you're not going to be there, please, please, please, let your lead advisor know ASAP. We know stuff happens. We know this year is weird. But please try to #liveyourvalues of respect, responsibility, and dedication by ending this year strong. We still want you at meetings even if you can't be at the conference. But also, be at the conference. Don't forget we also have a CapCo statewide candidate, Mahee, who needs your vote for Secretary of State!
Bill Review Reminder: Check out AB 1810 prior to this week's meeting. We'll be drafting a support letter and working on an advocacy strategy tomorrow at the meeting.
Delegation Dinner, Friday, March 11 at 6:30pm: It looks like everyone is able to join us on March 11 for the triumphant return of delegation dinner at Vallejo's on O Street. You received payment instructions and the cost for your party to attend. $28 per person and you can venmo me (@CDominguez1 - last four digits of my number is 3299) or bring a check payable to me (or cash) to this week's meeting to confirm your reservation.
Officer Elections: EXTENDED to tonight at 11:59pm: It's time to stretch those leadership muscles and declare your candidacy for office! Don't be scared, officer life is cool. Check out roles and responsibilities and submit your candidacy form today. bit.ly/capcocandidates2022 Forms are due next Friday, Feb 18 and elections will be held at our February 23 meeting.
Conference Prep: Here's a rundown of what to do. Still unsure after reading this? Ask! (All google classrooms linked at bottom of bulletin)
- List of Introduced bills and their Feb 26 presentation time available here.
- Advocates: If your bill was introduced, work on your sponsor speech. Talk with your Legislator to coordinate with their author speech. Line up additional support from other firms. Talk with the leadership in your committee/legislature. Bill not introduced? Better luck next time but you're not off the hook! Find another bill you want to support (or kill!) and make plans to speak for or against it, file a position letter, or take another advocacy action. Check out the roadmap for deets. This is your self-starter, go get 'em tiger part of the program so get out there and take some action.
- Legislators: Coordinate support action with your sponsoring firm. Write and practice your Author speech. See time limits in the committee script!
- Advocates & Legislators: for whatever bill you're taking a support/oppose position on, you should be reaching out all the way up to the Governor's office NOW. Check out the committee chair, Speaker, Governors' Advocates, Policy Advisors, and Governor assigned to your legislature (available on the public roster and in the bill hearing schedules posted to IG/FB today).
- Analysts: You should have submitted your analyses via the google classroom. If not, contact program staff via slack.
- DOF: You should have submitted your TWO DOF proposals by now. Review them and be ready to argue for them on Saturday. Check google classroom or Slack for more info or to ask program staff questions.
- Courts: Your role and partner has been assigned so make sure to check that out and get in touch with your partner(s). (info by alpha, info by teams). Review the case materials in the court google classroom.
- Leadership: ask program staff if you're not sure what you should be doing right now - but chances are it's either "reviewing bills" or "lining up support/opposition and checking in with the rest of your leadership team"
MUN Secretariat Program: Not ready to stop seeing your Y&G friends? Looking to learn more leadership skills, earn service hours, and mentor the next generation of Y&G delegates? Become an MUN Secretariat! Secretariats assist our middle school MUN program (see below). Time commitment is 3 meetings (April 25, May 2, and May 9) and 1 weekend conference at the Y (May 14-15). Must be able to attend all meetings and the full conference. Fee: $40 (covers t-shirt, meals, and program supplies). Financial Aid is available. Register here. Space is limited!
YMCA Model UN (Middle School): Got a sibling, neighbor, cousin, or friend in grades 6, 7, and 8? Model UN is for them! It's like MLC but cuter 'cuz they're so small! Model UN focuses on collaboration, understanding, public speaking, and geography as Ambassadors learn more about the world around them and their role in it. Since covid continues to make travel tricky and planning a little more challenging, we'll be offering a Sacramento Valley focused program open to all middle schoolers in the region with meetings at the Sacramento YMCA and in western Nevada County. Three meetings (April 25, May 2, and May 9) and a weekend conference at the Y (May 14-15) including a pool party! Registration is now open: bit.ly/capcomun2022

REMINDERS
Annual Campaign: The YMCA is committed to ensuring that opportunity is a right for all, not a privilege for a few. Each year, we raise money to ensure everyone has access to all of our programs, from health & wellness classes to swim lessons, to, of course, Youth & Government. SCUSD California State Seal of Civic Engagement: (Sac City School Students) The Sac City Unified School District has unveiled plans to participate in the State Seal of Civic Engagement Program. From reading about it, sure sounds like Y&G participation would qualify you for this shiny mark of accomplishment. Learn more about the program here and ask your schools how to participate. We've reached out to the District as well and if we learn more, we'll let you know.
