2019-20 El Dorado Youth and Government Delegation Bulletin #3

Hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day weekend! Now it is time for us to get to work on learning the bill process.

"Nothing ever comes to one that is worth having except as a result of hard work."
– Booker T. Washington

1.) Fall Service Project and CapCo Field Day Sign-Ups now open!  Each year, the CapCo delegations participate in community service events in our community. We also come together as a Coalition with our sister delegations for a day of fun and friendship at CapCo Field Day. Sign-ups for both days are now available here:

Service Events:
  • Saturday, September 14, 2019: Quick Quack Car Wash Fundraiser, 1750 Cavitt Drive, Folsom, CA 9563010am-4pm;
  • Saturday, September 21: Great American River Clean Up, Negro Bar State Park, 9a-12pm;
  • Saturday, October 12: Smoresfest 2019 Fundraising Gala at the YMCA, shifts available all day (space is limited)
Field Day:
  • Saturday, September 28: 10am-3pm, Sacramento Central YMCA (2021 W Street): Lunch, activities, and t-shirt. $15 fee to attend to cover food and materials. Payable by check or cash (in a LABELED envelope!)
You'll get 1 point for completing the form and 4 points each for attending the Quick Quack Carwash, Great American River Clean Up, and Field Day (in its entirety). These points count towards selecting your program area for the year. #Liveyourvalues of empathy, dedication, and encouragement but signing up today to give back at one (or all) of these great events!

2.) Get all of Your Registration Paperwork In ASAP: If you are receiving this email, you have successfully completed our online registration portion (whoo!). But make sure that you have also completed the other two steps for full and complete delegation registration.
  • Make your first payment and/or submit your Completed Y-Assist Application with supporting docs (if applicable). This can be done through an online bank draft form (preferred method) or by bringing a check to our next weekly meeting. First payment is due Sept 13.
  • After you register online, the email you entered will receive a copy of the paper forms. Please fill out and return the signed forms by this weeks meeting, Sept 5. If you complete the online registration and do not receive the paper forms, check your spam folder. If you still have not gotten the paper registration forms, please let me know.
It is very important that you register as soon as possible. The sooner you sign up, the sooner we have your information and can begin sending you important information and updates.

3.) Where To Look for Information? If you have a burning question about something El Dorado delegation related, chances are it was in a weekly bulletin. Fun fact: We archive all of our bulletins online! You can look back at past bulletins here. If you ever miss a bulletin, please visit our delegation blogspot for the information from previous weeks.

4.) Y-Assist and Financial Aid: If you are considering joining our delegation, both new and returners, and the cost of the program will pose a financial hardship, we are here to help. The Sacramento Central YMCA has financial aid, called Y-Assist, available for all who need it. The Y-Assist application is included in your paper form registration packet. Please fill out the Y-Assist form and return it at a weekly meeting as soon as possible so we can process your application. If you have any questions regarding Y-Assist, please contact YMCA Coordinator, Dylan O'Tarrow - (916) 452-9622.

5.) Family Group Assignments: Last week all of the delegates were introduced to their families for this year. We will be meeting in these family groups at weekly meetings, for bill hearing night work, and at conferences as a way to get to know your fellow delegates better and learn about the program in a more interactive way. If you have just joined or do not have a family, please let me know. Here is a link to the family group roster for this year. Each family has a returning delegate as a family leader and a family group advisor to be your primary points of contact if you have questions or need help. I created family groupme groups for everyone this weekend. Let me know if you were not added to a groupme group.

6.) Attendance and Points: The officers and advisors are keeping track of who is attending our weekly meetings. Each delegate will get 2 points for attending each meeting. Please make sure that you sign in at the beginning of each meeting so we can mark your attendance and give you your points. (Also, don't forget to make your name tag!)

The points will count towards our program area selection draft. The more points you have, the better the chance of you getting the program area you want for the year. Ask any returner, points are a BIG DEAL. Make sure you get as many as you can! We will also publish a "point tracker" in the coming weeks where you can track how many points you have. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Payment ReminderPlease note that our first payment installment is due Sept 13. The links below allow you to submit your payment online through a bank draft. This is our preferred method of payment. We also can accept checks brought to weekly meetings.

All Weekly Meetings and Conferences are MandatoryOur weekly meetings are mandatory for all delegates. They will be held every Thursday (unless otherwise noted) from 6:30-8pm in room B3 on Oak Ridge's campus. If your delegate needs to miss a meeting, please either you or your delegate send me an email ahead of time to let me know. If your delegate has other commitments, such as sports, that conflict with our meetings, please contact me ASAP.  The same logic, even more-so, holds true for our three conferences.

Communication is Key! We will be sending a ton of information via email to you and your delegates over the next several weeks. Please make sure that you and your delegate read our emails so you can stay up-to-date on the latest and most important information. Top of mind is to fill out both the online and hard copy paper forms and submit your first payment installment.

As always, thank you for reading and I will see you on Thursday!
