Sac Central Delegation Bulletin #12: December Stuff

We hope you had a great Thanksgiving holiday and we're excited to welcome you back for the final two meetings of 2019! Today is #GivingTuesday - a great day to support the local nonprofits that matter most to you. We hope you'll consider supporting the YMCA so we can fulfill our promise to keep our programs accessible to all! ymcasuperiorcal.org/GivingTuesday2019

At the next meeting:  We'll hear from an expert on why it's important to consider the source and how to consider sources we encounter in the news, online, and in our research. We'll also discuss our December 11 holiday party and gift exchange.
What's due: Leadership Applications- Last Chance!

1.) Guest Speaker This Week: Molly Dugan will join us for a presentation on evaluating credible news sources (ie: How to Avoid Fake News and the impact of Fake News). Ms. Dugan is a Professor of Journalism and Communication Studies at California State University, Sacramento, where she teaches upper-level classes in public affairs reporting and newswriting. She also teaches journalism classes on media literacy, diversity and social justice and mass communication. Her recent research involves press freedom. Her ongoing research areas include government/political reporting, journalism ethics, race and gender in the media and community engagement.

Before she came to the university, she spent more than a decade as a news reporter at numerous newspapers, including The Sacramento Bee, The Press-Enterprise (Riverside, Ca.) and The Modesto Bee. She has a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Davis and a master’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University.
