Sac Central Delegation Bulletin #10: Drafting Legislation, Conference Prep, and More!

Like the marathon, life can sometimes be difficult, challenging and present obstacles, however if you believe in your dreams and never ever give up, things will turn out for the best.” -Meb Keflezighi, U.S. Olympic marathoner

At our next meeting: We'll wrap up the Drafting Legislation Module, Advocacy Firms will have more time to meet to finalize their Platforms, and maybe some more guest speakers, too.

What's due: Policy Platform drafts for Legislators and Advocates (Dec 11), Firm Info Forms for Advocacy Firms (ASAP), and, for fun, a Love Letter Video to Nuun (details below) due Friday

Here's what else you need to know:

1.) Conference Reminder: Our second conference, the Organizing Summit, is swiftly approaching. It will be held on Sunday, December 13 from 10:00am to 3:15pm. Our Keynote Speaker will be California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis! PLUS, we'll have two exciting post-con activities. A chance to check out Delegate-Led Caucuses at 4pm and the first ever Nor Cal Y&G Virtual Dance at 5pm. And it's going to be a full on dance party so get ready.

2.) Get Social: Are you on Instagram? Follow our delegation - @sacyandg - and the NorCal Y&G account - @norcalyg for all the latest on conferences and program stuff. (Follow our sister delegations, too: @eldoyandg and @goldcountrymlc) No need to join if you're not on Instagram, of course.

3.) Candidate Statements: Be an informed voter! Check out the regional leadership candidate statements. Best of luck to our own Liam, Candidate for Governor!

4.) "Drafting Legislation Part 1" Slides: Here are the slides from this week's meeting

5.) Leadership Applicants: If you applied for an appointed leadership position, you received an email with an interview time this afternoon. If you don't see it, check your spam box thoroughly. If you still don't see it, let me know. Times are available here, but you want the info in the email, too!

6.) Round 2 Leadership Apps: Court leadership, Governor 2, Secretary of State 2, and Assembly Speaker applications are now available hereClick hereto read all about the positions and campaign rules for elected leadership.

7.) For Advocates Only: Firms need to have ONE person selected as a Principal and need to choose their Firm name and submit that information via this form. You also need to complete your Policy Platform Draft by December 11. Though you had some time at this week's meeting and you'll have some time at next week's meeting. I highly encourage you to meet as a group again outside of meeting times to complete your work. If you need help connecting with your fellow Firm members, contact me or Trisha. You will also receive an email from the NorCal program with a lot of details about your tasks as a Firm. Check your spam folder if you don't see this email by Friday morning

8.) For Legislators Only: Legislators need to complete a Platform by December 11. To access your personal template, join the Legislator Google Classroom. You will receive an email from NorCal program with lots of details about your Legislator tasks. Check your spam folder if you don't see this email by Friday morning.

9.) December Kindness Challenge: A SoCal Y&G Delegate in the Westside Delegation created a cool December Kindness Challenge and that's a bandwagon we will be happy to get on. You can check out their instagram post here (still working on getting a larger pdf). If you tackle any of the challenges, tag their account and our delegation instagram with the hashtags #norcalyg and #kindnesschallenge.

10.) Nuun? Okay - this is mostly for returners, but new delegates are welcome to get in on the fun, too. In non-pandemic times, our coalition usually rises before dawn on the Sunday after Thanksgving weekend to run two marathon aid stations. We fill about 8 million tiny cups with water or sports drink (Nuun brand - pronounced nooooooon) and we cheer on the runners making their way from Folsom to the Capitol. It's cold and dark when we start and we get soaked with water, clean up tons of cup trash, and yell "NUUUUN!" and "Water!" and "Looking good!" until our voices are hoarse. We thought it would be fun to make a video love letter to the race organizers who let us help out (and who have financially supported our delegation, and so many local nonprofits, for years).By this Friday, email me a very short video clip of you standing outside your house with a small water cup with no one to take it, yelling Nuun into the empty street, or poised with a rake or broom or garbage bag and no piles of cups to pick up. Look as forlorn as you'd like or as joyous and enthusiastic, but alone, as you like. (Note: don't do this in a group. Solo and social distanced is the way we do thing these days. 😉  )

11.) Zoom Link: here's next week's Zoom meeting link. Officers should log on at 6pm. All other delegates will be admitted to the meeting at 6:30pm.  CHECK EMAIL FOR LINK.
