Y&G Sac Central Bulletin #19: Pre-Conference Special (w/ Important Parent Notes)

We leave tomorrow morning!  Here's what you need to know:

Annual Campaign Starts This Week!

Each year, YMCAs around the country hold their Annual Support Campaign. Our very own Sacramento Central YMCA campaign is underway and we need YOU to join!

For over 150 years, our YMCA has provided quality programs in our community and proudly lived its mission to promote Healthy Living, Youth Development, and Social Responsibility.

100% of our Volunteer Advising Team has already made their pledge. We hope you'll join us by giving online today at http://bit.ly/saccentraldonate or via the form available here.

Our goal is 100% delegate participation. Participation starts at just $1.

If you give $1 or more you'll be entered into a drawing for a $50 Starbucks gift card. The first family group (our delegation counts as one family group) to hit 100% participation will win a special prize!

Conference Information:

Schedule:
We leave for Fresno tomorrow from the Sacramento Central YMCA (2021 W Street)! Please arrive by 9:45am. You should again plan on bringing a sack lunch for the trip there and your $7 prepayment for your Monday lunch, if you ordered it.  You can review conference information here: http://bit.ly/fresno2sacinfo

Take a moment now to look over the conference schedule. You'll be looking at your schedule in your assigned program area this time. You'll be provided a printed copy tomorrow when we arrive in Fresno. Bring a highlighter with you to mark your copy!

Don't Forget To Pack:

  • Your Delegation of Distinction Lanyard
  • Your Delegation Sweatshirt
  • A highlighter, pen, and notepad
  • Your Sleeping Bag
  • All the stuff on the Pack List
  • Comfy Shoes
  • Your jeans WITHOUT holes in them
  • Your lunch and your Monday lunch money (if applicable)

Wake Up Groupme And Remind!
Make sure that you are receiving GroupMe notifications and Remind messages. We'll use both methods of communication at conference. As a reminder: you don't need to download either app (to me, remind is actually easier via SMS), but you can! GroupMe is much handier as an app. Both are free and supported by all phone types.

Sac Rack
If you would like some Sac Rack coupons, just let me know when we get to Fresno. I have a bunch to distribute. Pick up some new professional attire in Fresno and be ready to rock Sac Conference in style!

Reminders:

Party Chair Applications Available in Reggo: Want to lead one of the 6 political parties next year? Apply in Reggo today! Applications are due by Monday, January 15 at 11:5pm. If you apply, make sure to let me know so I can approve your application.

Don't Forget The Buddy Challenge At ConferenceHere is a link to the list of buddy pairs/groups and our photo scavenger hunt challenge. Start now! Photos must be uploaded before the close of the Govenor's Banquet at Sac Conference! Good luck! Returners - it's your job to check in with your buddy to see how their year is going!

Parent Corner

Annual Campaign: Help us make the Annual Campaign a success! As a nonprofit, we're eligible for most company's matching donation programs. If you have questions on how to give or want to help us with the campaign, please let me know! Creating a culture of giving within our delegation is one of our primary goals each year. Everyone benefits when our program is accessible to all.

Emergency Contact: If you will be out of town or unreachable this weekend, please provide me with an alternative emergency contact who is available to respond to any (unlikely) emergencies that arise this weekend.

Sac Rack: Our final conference of the year requires delegates to dress in professional attire from 8am-10pm each day. We know that investing in a new wardrobe can easily bust the budget, but it doesn't need to! This weekend, all delegates have a chance to "shop" Sac Rack - a pop-up professional attire boutique created by donations from people in communities across the state, including ours! Here's how you can help and be helped by Sac Rack

  • Tonight is your last chance to clean out your closet! Send a bag of gently used, clean professional attire with your delegate tomorrow and we'll take it to Fresno for you.
  • Sac Rack Coupons are available to delegates to acquire free professional attire pieces to create or augment their wardrobe for Sac Conference.
  • Delegates can also purchase pieces priced between $1 and $5.
Sac Conference Attendance: Sac Conference is Feb 15-19 and constitutes and excused absence from school under the Education Code. I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you again that regular season sports or other regular, predictable, or recurring events (like homework or tests) do not constitute valid excuses for missing any part of Sac Conference. Exceptions will only be granted on a case-by-case basis for special circumstances (like state championships, meetings with the pope or president, that sort of thing).

It may seem like no big deal to pop out for a couple of hours, but your advisors are responsible for knowing your whereabouts at all times and tracking delegate location when every one is at conference is tricky enough. We cannot track individual arrival and departure schedules as well. Y&G is also preparing you for real life in that, in life, sometimes you have to make tough choices about what activities to prioritize.

We thank you for respecting this policy and helping us ensure a safe and positive experience for all delegates.
