El Dorado Youth and Government Delegation Bulletin #5

Check your email for referenced attachments.

“In a gentle way, you can shake the world."
-Mahatma Gandhi.

Make sure to both register for the conferences and take the PIC
via Reggo, and submit your first payment by Sept 20th!

1.) Payment 1 Due This WeekA $400 payment is due this week. If you signed up for the bank draft, payments will be deducted on the 20th of each month. Checks can be submitted at this week's meeting (payable to "Sacramento Central YMCA with your delegate's name in the memo line).

  • If you are making payments online, you will need to log into your account. This is usually going to be done with the delegate's email address (or the parent's email) and the password was automatically generated as the delegate's First and Last initial and their date of birth. So Jane Delegate, born on March 15, 2002 would have a password of JD031502. Contact Dylan if you have problems logging on to make your payment.
  • Here are online payment instructions.
  • Payments received after Friday, September 21 will be considered late.

2.) Reggo and the Political Ideology Compass (PIC): For those new delegates, Reggo is the online registration website that CalYMCA uses for conferences and the PIC. All delegates will need to do two things to proceed in the delegation, they will need to 1) register for the conferences 2) take the PIC by Thursday, September 20th. Each delegate will receive points for completing each thing, if done by Sept. 20. You will need to resister via Reggo at least 24 hours before you take the PIC.

In order to take the PIC, you will need to first register for the conferences and obtain a participant ID. You cannot take the PIC without this ID.

All delegates who register and take the PIC by Thursday, Sept 20th will get points. If you do both you will get more than if you only do one or the other.

Reggo Registration Steps (See attached instructions):
  • Step 1) Go to calymca.reggo.org/register/events select YMCA Youth & Government
  • Step 2) Select 71st Model Legislature and Court
  • Step 3)
    • If you are in grades 10-12, select "delegate registration" and enter "1" in the box and click "continue."
    • If you are in 9th grade, select "Freshman registration" enter "1" in the box and click "continue."
  • Step 4) Complete your profile. Make sure to select the appropriate delegation from the drop down menu. Make sure you have the right one.
  • Step 4.5) FOR FRESHMAN ONLY: Delegates will rank their top three committee choices. Make sure you select a different option for each of your choices. You can't compound a choice.
  • Step 5) Submit your registration and make sure to save your Reggo login information. You will need it for leadership applications, bills, and other Y&G events throughout the year.
PIC Survey Instructions (See attached instructions):
  • In order to complete the PIC, you need your voter PIN. That number is found in your Reggo account after registering.
  • Once you have your "participant ID" from Reggo, go to vote.calymca.org and enter that ID as the "voter PIN."
  • Then complete the PIC. The information from the PIC will not be disclosed to anyone.
  • Please note, it can take up to 24 hours for your participant ID # to work. If you cannot take the PIC because it says your credentials don't work, try again the next day.
Completing the PIC will sort each delegate into one of 6 youth and government "political parties." These parties are Poppy, Redwood, Grizzly, Trout, Gold, and Avocado. They do not have baring on real life parties, but try to group delegates with similar political interests into the same party. These political parties are important to the operation of youth and government because they create legislative platforms, support candidates, and serve as primaries for Youth Governor and Chief Justice.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need technical support.

3.) Mixed Bags Sales Start This Week: Mixed Bags catalogs will be provided at this week's delegation meeting along with instructions on completing order forms and collecting sales tax. Orders will be due on October 4. Delegates earn 50% of their pre-tax sales towards their program fees. Delegates who indicated interest in participating get priority for catalogs. Delegates need not have applied for Y-Assist to participate. Delegates not on Y-Assist who participate can choose to have their sales credited towards their program fee balance or donate their sales to our general scholarship pot.

4.) Financial Aid Applications Due This Thursday: If you are interested in applying for financial aid, applications are due this Wednesday. (See pages 19-24 in the paperwork packet for applications.) There are two applications you must submit:

  • Y-Assist - funding provided by the Sacramento Central YMCA
    • Award notifications will be going out shortly via email from Dylan
  • CalYMCA Individual Scholarship - funding provided by CalYMCA
    • Award notifications will be provided the first week in October
  • Both applications require the same supporting documentation. You need only submit one copy of your supporting documentation. We will submit the CalYMCA Individual Scholarship Application on your behalf.
  • Please make sure that you fill out both applications completely. Incomplete applications or applications missing supporting documents cannot be processed.
  • The CalYMCA Individual Scholarship deadline is this Thursday. If you don't submit your application by this week's meeting, you will miss out on funding!
  • Reminder: If you want to be here, we want you to be here. We are committed to ensuring no delegate drops the program solely because of financial concerns. If you are concerned that your supporting documents don't provide a complete financial picture, please include a supplemental letter explaining your particular situation. For further assistance, contact Dylan O'Tarrow, Y&G Coordinator, at 916-452-9622.

7.) Finalized Family Groups: All delegates have now been sorted into one of 10 family groups for the year. These "families" are a way that our delegation divides up the delegates to 1) be able to keep track of them at meetings/conferences, 2) have delegates get to know new people within the delegation, and 3) provide teams to have competitive challenges. Please see the attached spreadsheet to see which family you are in.

Also, each delegate has been added to a groupme app group chat for their family. If you are not in a groupme group chat, let me know.

8.) Community Service and Fundraiser Volunteer Sign-Ups: We've got several community service opportunities in September and October - Click here and let us know which days you are available to participate. This is a great way to give back to the community and get those much valued points!
